Pre- & Post-Care

A Few Tips and Tricks to Keep You Shining!

Before Your Appointment

  • DO hydrate with plenty of water for a few days leading up to your appointment…hydration is key to a successful session.

  • DON’T drink alcohol or caffeine immediately before your appointment…in addition to dehydrating you, these substances can also make you more sensitive.

  • DO come to your appointment fresh, clean and free of makeup…this will ensure that I can get right to work!

  • DON'T use any retinoids or harsh skincare products for at least one week prior to your appointment (for face treatments).

    • Accutane must be discontinued at least 6 months prior to electrolysis.

  • DO consider using a numbing cream/topical anesthetic if you are sensitive.

  • DON’T expose the area to be treated to the sun (or any UV rays) for at least 48 hours prior to treatment…this could cause permanent hyperpigmentation…yikes!

  • DO consult with your physician BEFORE starting electrolysis treatments if you have any medical condition that impacts your skin, heart, blood or hair, or if you are pregnant.

    • During your initial consultation, we will review your relevant medical history to determine if you are a suitable candidate for electrolysis. A few situations require a doctor’s note of permission before commencing treatment.

After Your Appointment

  • DON’T touch or scratch the treated area…it needs time to heal!

  • DO apply a soothing or antiseptic product on the treated area to avoid infection and to help calm the skin.

  • DON’T wear tight clothing on the treated area or harshly rub the treated area with a towel when drying off after your shower…avoid that friction!

  • DO avoid using oily, heavily perfumed, or alcohol-based products/makeup on the treated area.

  • DON’T expose the treated area to the sun (or any UV rays) for at least 48 hours after treatment. Again, this could cause permanent hyperpigmentation and/or scarring.

    • On that note…DO be sure to regularly apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to the treated area for at least 48 hours after treatment…and hopefully longer!

  • DO apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treated area if needed.

  • DON’T take any excessively hot baths or visit any saunas for at least 24 hours after treatment.

  • DO hold off on exfoliating the treated area for at least 5 days after treatment…once the redness disappears, feel free to loofah away!

  • DON'T use any retinoids or harsh skincare products for at least 48 hours after your appointment (for face treatments).

  • …and a special note about the underarms: DON’T use deodorant for at least 48 hours after treatment…I think you smell like roses anyway!

TIME TO GIVE THE TWEEZERS AND WAX A REST (FOR GOOD!)

Now that we have started treatment, it’s important to do everything we can to maximize your results.  This includes saying goodbye to all of our former friends (which can actually cause an INCREASE in hair growth and damage our hair follicles):

  • No more tweezing!

  • No more waxing or sugaring!

  • No more Nair or other depilatories!

  • No more bleaching!

  • No more lasers!

  • A note on shaving:  please hold off if you can – I know it’s hard!  Although it is okay to shave or trim your hair between sessions, please do not shave/trim immediately before an appointment.  I need to see your hair in order to treat it!
